The Constant Stretch
Jul 08, 2026Stretching yourself physically, mentally, and otherwise metaphorically is a deliberate action that requires you to get over inertia and develop momentum. You build on what you know. Or you return to the confines of what you know.
Everyone lives in a space of perceptual bias. We look for affirmation of what we know. It’s a way we tell ourselves that the world is “safe.” It’s a beautiful illusion. We pretend by maintaining blind spots, so we don’t need to look beyond what we already know.
I seek out multiple sources of “news” so that I can observe what others are saying about events in the world. I’m not there, I’m not in the room, so I can’t assess for myself. And unless you’re a part of it, you can’t assess accurately, either. And assumption isn’t accurate assessment.
So, stretch.
Push yourself to go beyond the bounds of what you know. The first time I was given radishes (the root vegetable) as part of a breakfast sandwich, I almost freaked out. I had all these mental rules about where radishes belonged: sometimes in a salad, sometimes in a garnish, and if you were daring, sometimes on a vegetable tray. But in my breakfast sandwich?
Yes! And it enhanced the flavors.
Let everything you do be an experiment and push the boundaries just a bit. Bit by bit, you expand and when you do, you enjoy the fruits of Exponential Success!
Growth, a little at a time, compounds.
Stagnation and atrophy are the same. You know what it’s like when you don’t do something for a while. It’s easy to continue to not. And then, your habit is just simply not.
I want to do a forward bend and touch the floor. Think about how I’ll get there.
I want to expand my business so that I’m touching lives around the world on a regular basis. It’s the same thing. Think about how I’ll get there.
I want to experiment beyond the norm that I’m used to. That’s deliberate, that’s active, and that’s positive.
Where can you push past your current norms, just for fun? At breakfast? In your health and wellness? In your relationships? At work? Stretch. And when that stretch point becomes your new norm, stretch some more.
