Mostly In
Apr 22, 2026Does anyone ever wake up in the morning to do the most adequate job ever? “I’m setting out to be average today,” said no one. Maybe there are people who do have that compass setting. They’re not in my world. And because you’re here, if they were in your world, they likely have little influence now.
C’mon team! Let’s go “mostly in” commanded no coach.
The concept of All In isn’t what you think.
Sure, people will give themselves the pep-talk: Today, I’m going All In. That sounds like an intensity surge. All In isn’t about intensity. It’s about identity.
Going All In is an identity decision. It’s not a surge of effort.
Your identity speaks to an architecture that you build for yourself. It’s not emotional first. While emotions might be associated with a sense of belonging or ownership, the concept of All In closes off any path to do something different.
You can be fired up emotionally about something and still find a way out if you needed. When your identity is tied to your outcomes and the actions that get you to your goals, you don’t look for ways out. They’re irrelevant.
When you’re identity driven, you don’t wait for proof. You somehow know. Or you rely on a faith that just is.
Does it surprise you to know that most people have back-up narratives or reputation-saving strategies if what they go for fails? Most people let sabotage strategies surface when thing get to hard or the steps take you too far to the unknown. And most people, in order to fit in and be accepted will seek approval from others. In so doing, they give others the ability to vote on the dream that is so personal.
Others’ voices, past or present, don’t get a vote. And the path, though potentially simple, isn’t always easy. Multiply the amount of commitment, discipline, and consistency the All In outcome requires.
When I talk about doing, having, or becoming more, you take steps to get there. Lots of them. Over, and over, and over again.
All In requires a relentless calm.
You don’t change your identity by running on adrenaline unless you’re aiming for that to become your identity. Bursts of effort? Sure. Eruptions of emotions? Yes. Frantic raving? No. Quiet calm. Resolve. Grit.
That’s how you harness your will to keep going.
What are you struggling with right now?
When you get through it, and you will, who will you have become?
That’s a pretty solid question to be thinking about.
Stop playing in the Mostly In arena and go All In, with quiet strength and resolve. You’re making big waves and changing who you are along the way.
Your Next Big Next needs you. Keep going.
Keep making your magic.
See you here next week.
