“I did this for youuuuu.” It’s a desperate cry for attention. It’s the approval you need for deflecting from your own life. And it’s not necessary, at all.

You can live your life without seeking the verbal or physical “high-fives” from others. Yes, contribute. Yes, be helpful to others. NO, DO NOT do it for the sake of validation from others.

We humans like to contribute meaningfully, and we like to be acknowledged for doing so. No, not everyone wants public acknowledgement. We do all want to be validated for our humanity. 

YOU’RE DONE BEING A MARTYR. You don’t have to be the victim in order to be loved and appreciated. Whether in business or at home or maybe with close friends, you may have experienced over-giving. You knew you were over-giving at the time. And you rationalized that depletion of your energy because someone else was relying on you. 

What’s the Truth in that? 

Only you can assess that. Most often the case is that it could’ve waited or someone else could’ve done whatever it was that you needed to be the one to do.

Use your energy for something bigger – YOU. I’m a huge fan of making remarkable contributions in, to, and for the world. Personally, I can only serve greatly when I’m upleveling myself. And then, service at a greater level is a true choice, honor, and privilege. 

Your unique gifts matter. Give without martyrdom. Don’t seek approval or permission from others. Instead, seek to acknowledge and appreciate others. The world is hungry for that.
