Deliberately Deleting Commitments

Jul 02, 2025

Have you ever committed to something and then realized it’s not something you believe in anymore? When it’s not something you want to do, have, or engage with, it’s likely that it’s no longer aligned with whom you’ve become.

Maybe it’s a meeting on your calendar.

Maybe it’s a particular workout regimen – or maybe it’s the lack of one.

Maybe it’s someone at work, or even at home, that you no longer really want to engage with in the way you’ve been engaging.

And the flip side of that is that maybe, just maybe, you want to connect with that thing, project, or person more deeply.

What is it you’ll stop doing to do more of the thing that fulfills you?

That kind of needed to be called out. You see, you’re a different person today from when you first made that commitment. Times have changed. Circumstances have changed. And you’ve changed.

I have tons of books that I told myself were important to read when I got them. I have a different perspective now. They’re probably still important, it’s just that I got the growth or enjoyment I needed a different way.

What about you? What’s on your calendar that you agreed to that no longer serves you in the way it was supposed to? Who can take that meeting? Or, can that meeting be distilled down to five, no more than six, bullet points?

We’re mid-year. What have you committed to that you no longer wish to have pulling on you? Letting go of that, whatever it is, frees you up to enjoy the growth that you so badly crave.

To be clear: Here’s what I’m NOT saying – I’m not saying that you got into a fight with your significant other, so now you’re no longer committed. That’s not what this is about. I’m not saying that when something gets hard that you decide that you’re not committed. Nope, that’s likely some stopping strategy of yours popping up. That’s what’ll keep you stuck. No, when things get tough is not when you decide to deliberately delete them. It’s when you have a clear perspective and you can see that circumstances have shifted, you get to shape your 1440 minutes of the day to the way you want it to go.

Clarity counts.

What’s in?

And, from here forward, what’s out?

Keep making your magic!
