Interview with Blair Kaplan Venables

Blair is all about Resilience.

Most people would find a cave to hide in if they experienced the sequential losses of family members that Blair endured. But her story is not one of retreat. Quite the opposite, in fact. Hers is one in which “bouncing forward” defines resilience. For someone who says that she lives with depression and anxiety, this interview is filled with energy and genuine smiles.

TheGlobalResilienceProject.com is both the name of her book and her passion project.

Like a muscle that you train, learning to bounce forward when the time is needed takes five easy “secret” steps:

  1. Practice Gratitude - one way to do that is to list (or share with someone) three things that you’re grateful for in the past 24 hours
  2. Fuel your body and your mind - What are you eating, drinking, and letting in mentally? From food to drama to media, get super aware of what’s in and what’s no longer allowed in.
  3. Forest Bathing or from the Japanese, Shinrin-Yoku, means to absorb the forest atmosphere. In short, just get outside!
  4. Sleep! Your body and your mind need sleep to integrate and restore. Plan your day around the sleep you need, not the other way around.
  5. Share your story! You’re not alone and the best way to bounce forward is to share your story and maybe listen as someone else
