Ultimate Freedom

Think about what Ultimate Freedom is. I’ve asked this of so many people and all too often, the answer is stunned silence.


“Well, I guess not having to do anything I don’t want to.”

That’s such a negative-based, defensive response. And it provoked my curiosity: 


If ultimate freedom is NOT doing something you don’t like, what is it you would WANT TO DO?


That’s one of the hardest questions to answer. Most people have a lot of rules pop up before they answer that question.


“I mean, I know what I’d want to do, but it’s not practical.”

“Oh, what I’d like to do, my (husband/wife/spouse/other) wouldn’t let me.”

“No, I’ve put off what I want to do for so long, I don’t even know what it is anymore.”


Please read that last line again and tell me if it resonates with you. (Reply to this post and let me know.) Surprisingly, A LOT of people have put off what they really want to do for so long that what they have left in their life is only a list of “need to, have to, should.” 


Ouch. I inwardly cringe when I hear it.

Yes, there are things we need to do to make our lives work.


There is more than one way to make that happen.


When was the last time you thought about what Ultimate Freedom would look like or feel like for you? Seriously. And, with the recognition that freedom looks different to each of us because of our backgrounds and our current situations, I’d invite you to think beyond all of that.


Beyond current circumstances – what does Ultimate Freedom look like, feel like, smell like, taste like, move like, and so on?


What is your ideal day? 

🡪 Write down the first thing that popped into your head. Was it quiet? Was it active? Was it aroma filled? Write it down.


Now, what are the next best three steps you need to take to move closer to that, even if it’s a small movement?


For example, if your sense of ultimate freedom is to wake up and smell fresh coffee brewing before your feet even touch the floor in getting out of bed, your first best step might just be to research coffee makers with auto start timers. This is just an example, but most people make it so complicated to feel free, they forget the small stuff along the way.


Make your list.

Take action.
