Q4, Shut The Door

wednesdays with wayne Oct 02, 2019

I just celebrated a birthday.  That’s my personal New Year and it’s a time to reflect on where I’ve been and where I’m headed.  In celebration, Shannon and I took a trip to Chicago. We played, we walked, we ate, and we enjoyed good theatre.

HAMILTON has been widely acclaimed and for good reason!

It’s genius writing with doctoral level research into the time period for accuracy overlaid by a modern cast with modern lyrics and dialogue.  This Wednesdays With Wayne isn’t about my critique or review of this stage play.

Nope. I’m not reviewing the play; I’m bringing you a strong concept that comes from Aaron Burr’s character:
“Talk less.  Smile more. Don’t let them know what you’re against or what you’re for.”

Burr was known for being wishy-washy.  And he lost a lot because of it. When you take a stand, you make a declaration about what you value.  You let others know what’s IN and what’s OUT for your life. You get more of what you focus on. If you’re focused in the right direction and getting the results you want, stay focused!  If you’re not getting the results you want, refocus. And if you’re unfocused, you’ll get more of that sense that nothing seems to come together.

It’s time to make your declaration.  We’re into the fourth quarter of this year.

Decide what you value.  Declare what you value – at home, at work, in the world.

Declare.  Dare to take a stand.

It’s Q4 and you must shut the door on what’s gone before.  You take a stand and make your declarations about the future.  Evaluate the results you’ve gotten to this point this year. Make some modifications.  Step in and step up. Take a stand.

Dare to be opposed.

Just as important, dare to be supported!

What if you told other people what you valued, and they actually stepped up to support you and to lift your dreams!  If you wait to “find out which way the wind blows,” you’ll never get what you want or need. You’ll never feel fulfilled.

We are in the final quarter of 2019 (I know, that was all too quick).  What targets do you have for these last few months of the year? How will those results prepare you for 2020?  Break your big targeted outcomes down to what can be accomplished a quarter at a time, a month at a time, a week at a time, a day at a time.

Action steps:

  • Declare what you value
  • Take steps to get there
  • Sort what’s IN and what’s OUT (sometimes that’s distractions, sometimes it’s people)
  • Keep moving forward

And keep making your magic!
