Don’t Do It All

Aug 26, 2026

In my writing, I often share theory I find interesting. I enjoy serving to inspire greater leadership. And occasionally, I’ll share something personal. I haven’t done a lot of that latter in a while.

So, here’s something I’ve not shared publicly: I think I have a form of ADHD. Those of you who know me might be nodding, saying, “Well, yeah. We thought you knew.”

As of this writing, I’m self-diagnosed and late to the party. And everything I have been learning seems to explain my childhood and my early years in school. There’s now so much new information available; I’ve been testing and modifying various approaches to success. I’ve found one that works well for me. It’s a simple reminder that might serve you, too.

I’ve written a lot about discernment and dedication. There’s more to come, because intentionality is essential to you attaining your Next Big Next!

Right now, I’d like to offer you the permission that I found for myself.
You Don’t Have to Do It All

You don’t! Isn’t that a relief??

There are a couple of ways to look at that sentence:

  • YOU don’t have to do it all. Maybe someone could help you? Maybe there’s a digital intelligence tool that could assist you.
  • You don’t HAVE to do it all. Are you putting some undue pressure on yourself? Is it an artificial urgency? Look carefully. You don’t HAVE to do anything. There are consequences, but you don’t have to do anything. So put yourself back in control and choose.
  • You don’t have to do it ALL. You can do some of it. For me, this one was the key. I’d look at a project, determine that it’d take three or four hours to do, look at my calendar, and then feel defeated because I don’t have a four-hour block to devote to a project. Worse, I’d look at a project that in reality would take four hours but being a little time blind, would think I could get it done in the 37 minutes I had between calls. Nope. None of it works this way.
    • I realized that I’ve been teaching the best work-around for years: “Chunk It Down.” Little bite-sized chunks. Combine that with bite-sized pieces of time and it becomes, “how much can I do in a twenty-minute block?” That’s how I wrote my first book – in twenty-minute time blocks. I’d write. And when twenty minutes was up, I’d stop. That left me aching to want to come back to do more!

By NOT doing it all, I actually got more done!

You don’t learn a language, climb a mountain, or get that beach bod all at once. When I regained my perspective and gave myself permission to do less in any given time-block, I became exponentially more productive.

So, this is me giving you permission to do some. Then, do some more.

Keep making your magic. Be intentional. Do some. Then, do some more!
