What do you want? Bring that to the game, your game.

Go yell at your fireplace in the winter: “Give me warmth, then I’ll give you some wood.”

I often counsel the leaders I work with, “You first, dear leader. You take action first.” 

I want…

            to be super wealthy. 

                      Great. How have you helped others to uplevel their lives through your leadership,
                       your efforts, or your contributions?

            to go on vacation.

                       You know, vacations come in all shapes and sizes. The big question is whether
                        you’ve even put it on your calendar. No. It’s still a “someday” item.
                        Someday when the other stuff is taken care of, then? Not likely. Put it on your calendar.
                        Plan for it. 

             my employees to shape up and do their jobs.

                        I still smile at this because I worked with a leader who added the F word to
                        that statement. He didn’t realize that his lack of communication about the
                        expectations and his lack of living into the company vision kept him at arm’s
                        length from his team members  (whom he called employees). Do you want your
                        family or your team members at work to act a certain way? Model what you
                        want to see. Get clear about your values. And keep talking about the Vision. 

             a new car.

                       Great! What make and model and what conditions need to be met so that you
                       can get one?

A couple of key points here: 

1. Get clear, really clear on what you want.
2. Write it down. Seriously, your subconscious needs to know that you mean it.
3. Plan it. If it isn’t in your calendar, it’s not real yet.
4. Get rid of excuses. (see #5)
5. Take action. Model what you want. Want to be happier? Smile! Want people to respect you? Start with what you expect of others and how that shows up.
